Giving Thanks

I was listening to a tape by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson in which he was talking about giving thanks to God. He said it is easy to see the big blessings of God, for example our health. But it is harder to see the subtler blessings, such as our taste buds. God has created honey for people who like sweet things, and lemons for people who like sour things, and has given us different taste buds to enjoy all different kinds of food.

It is a good thing to give thanks for, especially for someone like me who likes to eat!

Remember the father in "Eat drink man woman"? That moment where he says, "You put too much garlic in your soup. ..." then it hits him: he's got his taste back.

Such a great quote! Thanks. I was reading something similar yesterday but it was more about being content with what you have and not what you don't have. Taste buds surely are a blessing. I can't imagine eating without them. :-)

Tsste buds are certainly a blessing, but so is the food Allah has provided for you, when so many in the world go hungry.

Shaikha Hamza Yusuf just makes so much sense. We are so lucky to have him, alhamdulillah, especially in these difficult times.
